Our Final Term at Kirklandneuk

ACTIVITY WEEK So far we have had an amazing start to the term. Some of the pupils have been away on our Residential Trip to Lockerbie Manor while others had a fantastic time enjoying our Activity Week. During the activity week we visited the Science Centre, Sky Park and ten pin bowling. We had a brilliant week and the pupils' behaviour was exceptional. The pupils got to try out a range of new sports and experiences, and had great fun!
MOVING ON UP PROJECT We had a fantastic day working with a group of staff from the Children's Parliament in connection with a Mural Project to be created at Renfrew High School. The staff took us through a range of cards in the morning which encouraged us to think about our thoughts of moving to high school and create a range of images too! In the afternoon we worked in the hall doing some more activities, including creating a Talisman.
WOW WEEK VISIT In connection with our WOW week we visited St Mirren Stadium to see a real-life working environment as well as further developing our football skills. Dave and Ross organised a great afternoon and we all had a fantastic time playing football in the Dome! We are very fortunate to be visiting HP Business premises in June to look at another business environment and find out more about the jobs completed by some of our visitors during WOW week.
KICKSTART TRAINING
In April we undertook a training session with Mr Millar to develop our skills in using the weights we have purchased by reinvesting our profits. We bought a range of Kettlebells, Body Bars and Dumb bells of varying weights. Throughout the training we learned how to handle the weights safely and how to incorporate them into our circuit training. We identified the muscle groups each exercise was working and developed our skills in demonstrating the correct technique in preparation of our Weight Training launch on Friday 30th May. We had a lot of fun using the weights and hope our customers will enjoy taking their fitness to the next level! KICKSTART AWARDS On Tuesday 6th May 2014 we were inspected by three inspectors from Education Scotland as part of our nomination for a Scottish Education Award in Enterprise and Employability. We ran an extra class that day to showcase our excellent service we offer and demonstrate the fantastic skills our instructors have. The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony in Glasgow on Tuesday 10th June. KICKSTART CHARITY EVENT The pupils chose to organise and run a special charity Kickstart class on Friday 16th May to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. They organised an “own clothes” day, a Guess the Teddy's Birthday and held a raffle with a range of exciting prizes including 4 family passes to St Mirren. The Kickstart class was very wel attended and the charity event raised £430 for a very worthy cause. We are very grateful to all who supported us in making this event such a success. INDUCTION DAYS We visited Renfrew High School at the end of May for our Induction days. Most of the class were feeling excited about going and had a very enjoyable time, especially after the Transition support we have received from Paul, Maggie and Ashley.
