Term 3
Primary 7 have had a very busy and exciting term which has just flown by. We celebrated the end of our topic with our WW2 Open Evening. The pupils performed a WW2 Drama and sang a range of war songs for the parents in the hall. The children shared their excellent knowledge of the war through a short assembly and then enjoyed taking their families around our class. The pupils are very proud of their quality writing, artwork and numeracy work they have completed during the topic. The feedback from the Open Evening was excellent and our guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
We were fortunate to enjoy an afternoon of Drama organised by CLAD and led by Alyson Honeyman. The pupils were learning about developing a character role and developing their expression and body language to deliver lines. They worked in Co-op teams to devise a short drama based on the Blitz or Evacuation. The pupils then performed to the class and evaluated their performance.
On Friday 20th March Primary 7 engaged in an activity day organised by Rolls Royce Apprentices to promote STEM subjects in the Primary (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). The pupils worked cooperatively in teams to carry out a range of activities involving designing planes, operating mechanical hands and learning about parts of a plane engine. The children found the day very interesting and were keen to ask questions and apply their skills in completing the tasks. In the afternoon the pupils worked together in teams to plan and construct a car using a range of materials and a balloon and straw to power it. The afternoon concluded with a race to see whose design was most effective. Many thanks to the Rolls Royce Apprentices for their organisation and well done to P7 for their efforts.
We have had a very busy start to Term 3. We have run two Kickstart classes and had some new customers coming along to work out with us. The children are enjoying completing weight training as part of their circuits. We also enjoy running ouR after school Kickstart club which some staff and many of our pupils attend. Customers are also welcome to attend this class which runs from 3.30pm-4.30pm on Thursdays.
World of Work Week
Primary 7 have had a fantastic week for WOW week. We have been visited by a lawyer, Hydrogeochemist - PHD student and a Skills Development Officer. The children enjoyed listening to the presentations and asked sensible questions to gain further insight into the careers we heard about.
Technology
As part of our Scotland topic in Term 2, we studied the life and work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The pupils were given a design brief to plan, design and construct a chair inspired by the work of Mackintosh. The children have been developing their measuring and sawing skills to ensure their chair is balanced and fits a Barbie doll. The children learned about using saws safely and correctly.
Social Subjects - World War Two
We have started our new topic for Term 3 – World War Two. The children created a learning plan to plan what aspects they would enjoy studying and are excited about the topic. The children have been given the challenge of researching and producing a Personal Project on an aspect of WW2 that interests them. They have submitted their proposals and are now ready to begin. DUE DATE FRIDAY 13TH MARCH!!!!!!
CLASS TRIP
We enjoyed a trip to Paisley Museum for a morning of activities about World War Two. We had the opportunity to view the parts of the museum related to the war and take part in a range of activities exploring wartime artefacts. We had great fun as well as developing our knowledge of the Home Front.
